Construction

Most know that my dad does construction remodel as his own business. Which is really nice for me because he can work on my place for practically nothing. When I knew I was getting the place, I asked him if he thought we could install hook-ups for a stacked washer/dryer. With the help of his best friend and long time family friend, Lane, we figured out how to run water, gas and a vent from one of the bigger pantries in the kitchen. Here are some pictures of the progress done before they started the real plumbing on 12/14/09.

As you can see I got rid of the electric stove and white hood. I actually sold both on Craigslist to a family who's stove had just died on them. Really worked out well!

This used to be a pantry with shelves and a door. Now its my laundry closet!

I didn't have an inspection done by a professional but did have my dad look at everything. An inspection wouldn't have told me that the wiring done on the re-model in the kitchen was done wrong. Its a good thing I wanted a washer/dryer because I wouldn't have found that out without opening up the walls.

The remodelers also skimped on tiling under the stove. Kind of a hack job. I'll be replacing the tile myself saving some money.

You can say "good-bye" to the naked lady. It was nice while it lasted but with the microwave hood going in there, she's gotta go!

The fan in the dining area will be replaced with a chandelier at some point. =cD

Furniture has arrived

Here's the new couch that I had to go all the way down to Northridge for. It was so worth it!
Very Comfortable.

Here's the new dining table. Currently without the leaf so I have more room.

Moving Day

Its Friday and I'm finally going to get the keys to my new condo! They told me that I should hear from them not long after noon when escrow will close. 12:30 comes and no word yet. 2:00 and still no word yet, agent has a call into escrow and they don't have confirmation just yet. 3:30 and I finally get the call from my agent that she's got confirmation and she's on her way to pick up the keys from the selling agent's office. I meet with her at 4:30 to get my keys, head home to pack a bag, and leave for Lompoc at 6:30. Spend the night at Vicki & Toms where I have been storing some stuff I kept from my previously rented condo.

And the good stuff...

Saturday morning I wake up with a stiff neck and excruciating pain! I must have slept wrong because I couldn't move my neck without a sharp pain going through it. Great...

Pack up the truck and head back to Oxnard. Dad is not far behind with his truck and trailer. Called my aunt Jamie to come help me pack the last of my stuff since I couldn't move or bend over. My roommate Adriana was there to help and with the two of them and Davidson it went pretty fast. The two guys I hired to help load the trailer and unload at the new condo showed up and things started moving fast. I was so glad I hired them because I couldn't do much except direct them what to take and how to load it on the truck.

We loaded almost everything in just a half hour. I told the two guys to go ahead and take a break and meet me at the new condo in 30 min. Well that wasn't enough time for my dad and I to go to walmart to get two tarps to hold everything down. The christmas crowd was definitly going and we waited for 20 minutes just to check out with two things!

We get back to the trailer and my dad is going to tie down the stuff using the tarps. I take off to the new condo to meet the two movers so they can start with the stuff in my truck. They unload everything and my dad still hasn't arrived. He calls after 20 minutes and he had to stop twice to keep stuff from falling off the trailer. I lost a small tub that fell off the trailer and was caught under the trailer and the axel....don't know what was in it yet. LOL

He finally arrives after 20 minutes of trying to explain to him how to get to the condo after he took the wrong exit. The two movers unload and realize I wasn't kidding when I said there were stairs going upstairs to the two bedrooms...where most of the stuff was going. (I wasn't stupid to just let them leave it in the living room for me to move. I was disabled!)

Everything moved in, my dad and the movers take off. Davidson and I plan on going back to the old house to get the pets and come home with some take-out chinese. We set up the tv in the bedroom, but no cable until monday so we watched movies. Butters (my cat) seemed to take to the condo instantly. She hasn't gone down stairs yet but she's stoked that there isn't a huge dog in the house anymore and its actually warm! Roxy (my dog) isn't so happy. She's used to having a yard to go potty whenever she wanted, now she has to whine at the door when she wants to go out. I feel bad but I try to take her out lots of times so she's not so cooped up.

First day in the new place was nice. No roommates to wake me up, the place is warm to my liking, and I can jump out of the shower and run to my room naked... yes naked! and not have to worry about someone seeing me. LOL

Since my neck was so messed up I didn't do much. Put away what I could but mostly rested. Had to make another trip from the old place to get my other tv and misc items.

I won't have a fridge until later next week so I'm living out of an ice chest for now and having to buy food to-go or anything easy to make without having to refridgerate anything. It will be nice once I get all the new appliances in.

Here's some pics before we closed escrow:

That's it for now. I finally got internet at home on Tuesday (guy installed it on Monday but I didn't have my wireless router yet) so I'll take more detailed pictures soon.
